Deer her ears capture the meadow wakening her eyes danger our presence though we hardly snap twig or branch Goose winter golf the ball lands in puddles gray tail feathers we watch for the familiar V but only see empty skies Racoon the gourmet thief moves from can to can with delicacy I relish steamed crayfish he picks at mac and cheese Pheasant in a wild rush his tail cuts brush and fern his path clear I hack at blackberry vines unable to see the end Coyote across the green he jogs along the cart path eager for cover our first journal entry pawprints in the snow Bear the silvertip shakes off the river’s chill lumbering the smell of grilled king colors the evening air

Raccoon is my favorite if for no other reason than your using crawfish for your personal relishing. Never had steamed. This coon has eaten his share of "boiled" ones though. Mon Dieu, just the thought makes me want to smell and rattle a few trash cans. Good job on all, dawg. D |

Gary, another most enjoyable set. All these animals are in my neighborhood too, I saw their images as I read each one. My fav. is the Raccoon but only beacuse it made me laugh, that mac and cheese was just the right touch. K |

Gary, we must all be hungry, for I picked Racoon as well (before I saw the other's picks). They're all very well done. Bravo! Best, Kathryn |

Thanks all and the racoon thanks you. I think he really wants the crayfish, but is too late. My favorite is Bear. The idea of someone grilling a king salmon in bear country is a hoot. Gary

Laurie, it is a grizzly, but even bbqing around a black would be as dumb. I like goose and pheasant also. I think those turns are what make tanka special. Thanks. Gary
